Special Status after completing OPT? Is it true

Hey Folks this my first post and please help me out in this, I have an one year opt and during one of the OPT sessions which was given in my university, my advisor informed us that If we start my OPT by May 2010 which is valid till May 2011, and If I have to file my H-1 next year in april and the status will change to H-1 only in october right? So what about my status from may2011 to october-2011? My adivsor told me that If I secure a job and they file my H-1 in may 2011 I will get into some special status where I can still continue my work untill october....Is that true, friends please help me out ASAP....as I have to apply for my OPT in two days.....thanks in Advance
