My mother received her green card in November 4th, 2008 through my sponsorship. Since then she has been living in the US and specifically in WA state for more than 6 months and has not been out of the country for a period greater than 5 months at any time. I believe she has met the continuous residence and physical residence requirement for applying for citizenship 90 days before her 5 year Green card anniversary (i.e. on August 5th, 2013). The question I have is around the requirement for her to reside in the state for 3 months preceding the application. She has always maintained residency in the same state (WA). Does the 3 months mean she has to physically be present in WA for 3 months prior to applying or does the fact that she has maintained residency in WA since the beginning of her green card enough? She did take a trip to her native country India in 2013 for 5 months starting January 28th, 2013 and came back to the US on June 27th, 2013. That means she will not have been physically present in the state of WA for 3 months if she applied on August 5th, 2013. So should she wait for 3 months from June 27th before applying or does the fact that she has maintained residence in WA since 2008 enough? Also if she does have to wait 3 months, does that also mean that she cannot travel to another state in the US for a short trip in between?
