  • I need a help to clear my confusion. Please help.

I got US green card in November 2009. I came to US to activate my green card in December 2009 and went back to Canada in January 2010. After staying for the whole year of 2010 in Canada, I came back in US for settling down in august 2011. Within a month, I got a job so i started to work in USA. In September 2011, I had to go back to Canada to finish all formalities to sell my house in Canada. The buyer of my house made an agreement with me that they want my house in February 2013, so I had to stay in Canada from September 2011 to December 2011. In December 2011, I went to India for my brother's grand destination wedding. I came back to Canada in January 2012. I packed my house and everything in February 2012 and sold my house to the buyer and moved to USA officially in February 2012. From February 2012 till present, I am continually staying in USA and working in USA. In the meanwhile from February 2012 till the present, I visited Canada in April 2012 for 2 days, in May 2012 for 2 days and in June 2012 for 2 days. In November 2013 - December 2013, I visited India again for a month for my another cousin's wedding. After that, I have not gone outside of USA. Now I am researching about becoming US citizen, because I am planning to apply for my citizenship in December 2015, which means I will stay in USA for 36 months, right?
So basically I have been out of USA for almost 24 months in the period from 2010 to 2012. My question is Should I apply for naturalization in Dec 2015 or Dec 2016? I read in USIC that I have to stay constantly for 5 years in USA to become a citizen. I also read in USIC that if I have stayed in USA at least for 2 and half year + 1 day extra, I can apply my citizenship. I am extremely confused about Which is true and which is not? I don't want to lose my green card, that is why I wants to find out when is the right time for me to apply for my citizenship. Can anybody help me please?

When you go to Interview for Citizenship, What types of records do they check about us? Do they check anything else than all stamps in my passport to find out how much time I have stayed in USA?

    Thank you.
