Rather new to the forums here. Glad to find community in this visa jungle...
I'm on a 12-month J1 VISA, in the Internship category. I am subject to the 2-year home-stay.
I know its possible in different categories of the J1 to change status (ie. from student assistant to research scholar, etc.). It is possible to change the category of my J1 from Internship to ie. scholar/student intern/student associate etc., so that I am able to extend my stay that way?
(I've been told by various organizations that it's NOT possible to change category from the intern category specifically, but I haven't heard from anyones experiences with this).
If not, what alternatives might I have (aside from tourist vias)?
