Hi,
I changed employer from ‘A’ to ‘B’ in May 2016 and the new I-797 is valid until April, 2019.
Recently I went to India for a vacation and I opted the Dropbox facility to get visa re-stamping done. ( I was eligible for drop box because I need re-stamping for same visa category and my most recent visa was valid until Jan 2017.)
I filled DS-160 for me and family and submitted the fees ($ 190/person) thru net banking and generated drop box confirmation letter while I was in US.
A day after reaching India, I went to drop-box location (for Chennai consulate) and they have collected DS-160 Applications, drop box confirmation letter, a copy of my current I-797, a copy of my previous I-797, 2 photos of each applicant (with US visa specification) and the passports. This process was completed within an hour.
I was tracking my application status via ustraveldocs.com and it went like open -> Ready -> administrative process -> Issued.
I got my passports back with visa stamped after 12 working days. If everything is well, usually it won’t take these many days. But during this December, Chennai consulate was closed for couple of days due to local issues.
I traveled back to US in last week of December and there was not much questions at the immigration desk.
