I am in a complicated situation; I appreciate if anyone can clarify it for me.
I am currently on F1-OPT as a postdoc (with F1 visa expiring this April), and my school is starting my academic (uncapped) H1B application process. My wife is on F2 now and staying in the US. She has also applied for a job, and they are planning to sponsor a (capped) H1B for her (through the lottery).
1. If I apply for a Change of Status to H4 for my wife along with my H1B application, does that affect her H1B application in any way? Would one of the two, or both be cancelled/abandoned?
2. Is it possible to not apply for Change of Status to H4 for my wife and wait for her H1B application to be selected and approved in the lottery? In that case, would she be able to stay in the US between when my H1B application is filed and October, when her H1B application is approved?
3. She wants to travel outside US for a short time and come back to US. Would she be able to do it after my H1B application is filed (either along with her H4, or without her H4)?
