B1 to h1

Hi all. I am currently in B1in USA and my I94 expires on Aug 15. I have an employer which is a cap exempt educational university willing to sponsor me H1 . Is it possible for me to stay in US while my H1 is filed and in process after my I94 expires? What status will i be with my B1 expired and H1 in process? My employer is ready to file H1 in a week. Kindly advise.
