International travel during H1 is extension. Dealing with family emergency...

My current H1-B is going to expire in May 2018. My company will start my visa extension process in few days from now. I have a family emergency and I my wife who is on H4 visa wants to travel India between December 2017 and April 2018. Is it okay for her to visit India during my H1B will under the extension process? Can there be any issues in port of entry for my wife when she returns back to US? Please note that she is coming back to US with H4 visa which will be active till May 2018.
