Out of status

I came to US on H1 visa and am searching for a project for last 69 days. And I don't have any payroll for the last two months. What are the options left before me ? If I go to India and return back after 2 or three months will it cause any problems. Or if I get a project as early as possible and run my pay roll will there be any problem in the future of not having the payroll for last two months.Also I want to know what are the requirements to change the visa ststus from H1 to H4 through COS or consular processing
