H1B extension with current employer even though changing employers

Hello, my current H1B is valid till Aug 2018 with my current employer and I am planning to change jobs. Is there any advantage of getting the extension done with current employer before changing the jobs given that H1B transfer will anyway extend the validity date? Thanks
