H4 -> H1

Hi,

I am on H4 and I have got an offer, the HR said that they will process my H1 and I can begin working, but before I start to work.. Do i have to have a SSN so that I can begin working? coz I think that they are going to deduct my taxes and the like.

Yes you need to apply for an SSN at your locan SSN office after you get an H1. Currently the quota for H1 visas are over but it will re-open in March 2007. So they will file it then. Send them copies of your passport, degree certificates, experience letters.. so they can be ready to file it.
