H 1 extension -Consulate Options

Hi All,
I need to go to India this March so wanted to get my H 1 stamped from there. I have heard that since I am from the South(Hyderabad) I will have to take an appointment from the Chennai Consulate though there are appointment dates available in other consulates. How true is this information ? What are the risks involved if I go to say, Delhi Consulate ?
