Hello All,
My wife had appeared for her H4 visa sometime in last week of Feb, 2010 at New Delhi embassy, and received her passport with H4 visa stamped recently. I would like to share the process in case you need any help. (However the bad part is that there is an error in her H4 visa but that I will write in another thread.)
Scenario: I am on H1B (my visa is not stamped). I was previously on F1 visa(now expired). My wife went alone for her H4 visa. My wife was previously on F2 visa (now expired). My wife has been in US for last 2.5 years approx.
She took following documents with her:
1. Copy of my I797
2. Orig of her I797
3. Her passport
4. Copy of my passport
5. HDFC receipt
6. her photo
7. Interview letter
8. DS 160 application confirmation letter
9. photocopy of my passport, I94
10. Employment verification letter
11. My job offer letter
12. Marriage certificate
13. Marriage invitation card
14. My pay slips for one year
15. W2 from previous years
16. Tax returns from previous years
17. LCA (labour condition application)
18. Bank statements
19. H1B petition including I129 form
She entered the embassy around 20 minutes before. Here are the steps she followed:
1. One person arranged the required documents (Her passport, copy of my I797, Interview letter, HDFC receipt, DS 160 application letter, one photo).
2. Then she was asked to go to one counter. The lady asked her twice what does she do? My wife is housewife, so she said so. The lady also asked my wife to show my H1 visa. My wife said that I did not have H1 visa stamped, and showed her my H1B approval (I797). The lady also checked the required documents only.
3. Then she was asked to go to another (or final ) counter. The person asked her about where do I work, and what is my education in US? Then the person said that her visa is approved and will be sent by courier. The person only took her passport and copy of my I797.
Her H4 visa came around after 2 weeks (that includes Holi vacations too).
