H4 to H1 with COS approved and traveled to India and came back to USA before Oct1st.

Hi,I was on H4 status and applied for H1.I went to India and my h1 got approved in September 20th with COS(received I797 with I94).I travelled back to USA on september 30th with H4 status.
1.My concern is whether i am on H4 status or H1 status?because i heard H1 will effective from oct1st.
2.Applied for SSN,still no updates from them.
3.My H4 is valid till Dec 31st.I am little bit worried on my status if i am on h4 status.Do i need to go for extension?
