221g Administrative processing - Passport reissue

Hi Friends

My H1 renewal has been struck in administrative processing (Chennai) for some time. Now my passport is going to expire next March. So I was thinking of asking my passport from the consulate and submit it for reissue of new passport. My logic being that if the 221g processing finishes by say Dec-Jan, then I will have only 3 months validity left in my passport. Maybe the embassy will not issue a visa and will insist on submitting new passport? Also I may face problems when travelling to US.

My questions are -

1. Is it OK to get a passport reissued when 221g is going on?
2. Will asking for passport adversely affect my 221g processing?
3. Will the passport no. change after reissue?

>>> No. Write a clear letter to the consulate explaining the reason why you are asking them for the passprt.

3. Will the passport no. change after reissue?
>>> Yes. But that should not matter. Once the passport gets renewed, submit both the passports to the consulate when the admin process gets completed. They will ask you to sen the passport when they are ready to stamp the visa.
