Switching from G-4 to F-1 student visa while being inside the US
I have a friend who is currently in the US on a G-4 visa who was recently accepted to grad school for this fall (August 2020) and needs to switch to an F-1 student visa while remaining in the US.
From our understanding, first they need to file their I-566 form with the State Department. Once the State Department endorses the form, the I-539 application must be filled to change their status to F-1. As, this seems to typically be a 4-6 month process, can my friend start school while this process has begun or can they start only after the change of status is completed? Will this potentially cause them to be out of status at any point?
