  • b1/b2 visa for medical residency interviews

    Hi,

I am a doctor from Pakistan.
I have applied for medical training in the US and received one interview so far but hoping to get more. My b1/b2 visa expired in July therefore, I need to apply for a new one ASAP so I can give my interview in December.

Here is a 'background' regarding my previous travel in the US:

I applied for a visit visa during medical school to do an elective in 2011 but my visa was denied since the officer got the wrong impression that I am going to US to work.
I applied again in 2012 and it got approved Alhumdullilah. This time I was able to convince the officer that I am going for an elective and not to work. However, I got the visa for only a year. not five years. I stayed in US only for a month and came back immediately after my elective ended. Hence, I did not over stay.

Now I need to apply again to give my residency interviews. Since I have been denied a visa once, I am a bit apprehensive. I really need the visa in Shaa Allah to give my interviews. Following are my concerns:

    1. As a documentation, I only have an email sent to me by the hospital that has invited me for the interview. Should I print out the email?
    2. I am employed currently. Will a letter from the employer help too?
    3. Any other advice ?

    Thanks in advance

You must have taken step2cs in US. When did you take it?

I took it in the same trip in which I went for my elective. That is my only US trip so far.

Your last visit was ok , so it should be a positive. The only thing is the officer MAY ask you about step2cs, and when you went for an elective
how come you took the test? Again they may or may not .
Just take the proof of elective completion with you just in case they want to see if you actually did an elective.

If your email letter contains the logo and full details of the hospital, it should be fine.
Yes employment will surely help. Just get a letter from your employer showing salary and LEAVE.

If you can show 1-2 more interview calls, that will increase the chances.
If you had good scores in steps 1 , 2 it will help.
They will ask you about long term plans in home country i.e. after completion of residency etc.
