Name Change in the Passport

I am planning to get the VISA for my father. To pay the amount and get the receipt to fix the appointment, When we looked at his passport, there is spelling error in the the name. Instead of 'Y' ( 'Kandasamy') at the end it is 'I' ( 'Kandasami' )

Will this a problem ?

If I want to change the name, what is the procedure to change it. How long it will take....
