  • Parents going for B2 visa second time: Please help

    Hi there,

My parents went for visa interview in January 2009 and got rejected. After all this, somehow my parents are agreed to go for interview one more time after waiting for 1 year. There interview is at end of this month.

I am really very tenced at this time and in search of guidance.
Your guidance and help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much,
    -R

    1. There's nothing to plan. Have them carry all the documents and tell them to tell the truth.

    2. There is never any rejection code stamped on the passport. But the consulate has all the details about your parents' previous application in their computer system.

    3. If he has retired then that is exactly what he must say. Retirement does not automatically mean that they will be rejected. They need to be prepared to show that they are economically stable despite being retired. They also need to provide evidence of strong social ties to their home country.

    4. They can say that they do not know why they were rejected.

      Hi smohanty,

Thank you very much for the reply. I truely appreciate your help. Unfortunately my family is not wealthy.
      1. Do the visa officer have access to my father's money matters?
      2. Also, as you have mentioned that they have everything recorded from previous applications, do they have interview recorded as well?
      3. If I am their sponsor, would still my father's financial status comes into play?
      4. What kind of social ties can be demonstrated and how, in this case?

Again, thank you very much for your response and being so helpful !
      Best regards,

      -R

Your parents do not have to be wealthy. But they have to show proof that they are financially stable and are not dependent on you for their day to day expenses in India. So they must have a steady income despite their retirement - in the form of a pension or monthly interest from bank investments. It would also be useful to show any houses/property or real estate which ties them to their home country.

You may be sponsoring your parent's trip and stay while they visit the US but their economic stability in India indicates that they will not stay back in the US to work or try to earn money illegally.

Similarly, they need to show very strong social connections (other children, grandchildren, parents etc) who will be a reason for them to return to India. If they have no strong relations in India what is to keep them from trying to stay back in the US with you?

The idea thus is to provide evidence of economic and social connections to their home country which can prove their intent to return.
