  • Tourist visas for friends and family to attend my wedding in US

I am getting married in April 2011. Some of my wedding invitees are friends and family that live abroad. Most live in countries that qualify for the VWP so they can travel here to attend the wedding without much "hassle". However:
    1) for the few family and friends that don't live in VWP countries (e.g. Brazil), is there anything I can do to help facilitate their Visa tourist applications (short of being financial responsible for them--except family)?
    2) for my close family (i.e. parents) I would like them to stay longer than what the VWP allows (i.e. 90 days) so they can meet my future in-laws, spend time with us, travel, etc. They are 79yo, retired (financially stable) and have close family ties to home, since my sister, her family and most of my parents' family lives there. Based on this, would they still benefit from me sponsoring them or will they be fine applying for a Visa that would allow them to stay up to 6-months? For self-sponsoring what does the immigration office wants as assurance that they will abide by the terms of their visit?

    Thanks for your advice.

    Regards,
    David
