Japan temporary visitor visa doubt

I have a temporary visitor visa for Japan. My main purpose is tourism and hence I will be traveling to different cities during my visit in Japan. I have hostel bookings and round trip tickets as well. But recently after getting my visa, I got in touch with a friend who said that I can stay at his place when I am in Tokyo. Is it allowed to do so?

I saw there's a different type of visa for "visting relatives/acquaintances" and hence, getting confused.

Also, if I choose to stay with my friend, do I need to show any kind of proof for it in case I get asked about my place of stay in Tokyo at immigration?
