Hi,
My same-sex partner is a Polish citizen and therefore an EU citizen. He also had German citizenship (yes, he had the permission for dual citizenship) but lost it due to becoming an American citizen. I am only an American citizen. We are getting married soon and planning on moving to Europe together within the next couple years.
Poland will not work for us for obvious reasons. However, my partner has a prospective job offer in Portugal. I am confused as to the rights of a spouse of an EU citizen, in particular in Portugal. Eventually I want to become an EU citizen myself, but unfortunately Polish citizenship is off the table.
What residency rights would I have in Portugal if I move there with my EU spouse? Would I be able to study or work in Portugal? What are the requirements for visas, permits, etc? How long will it take for me to get permanent residency in Portugal? Thanks.
Regards,
