I-765 renewal
Hi guys,

Now that I stayed without job I can share my experience in hope that it can be useful to some of you. This is more for the ones that are renewing their work permit while waiting for green card case to be resolved.

I had my interview for marriage based I-485 on June last year and still waiting for answer. Meanwhile my first work permit expired on July 28. 2018. I applied for renewal late as I was sure they will let us know if we passed the interview on the spot (not the case).

Notice date for I765 renewal: June 20 2018

I got my letter which is also automatic extension for me (C9) for 180 days.
That expired two days ago on 24th.
I still did not get the actual card and I tried everything.

- Called, raised first service request because case was outside the regular processing time (no answer)
- 11/20 Requested expedited over phone (financial loss that WILL happen in case I lose job on 24th) I was
denied due to high level of requests
- Went for infopass (they told me to wait as my case is still not assigned to the officer.
1/11/19 Called senator, they were really helpful asked for documents to support expedite request for financial loss. I'm still waiting on the answer as it takes at least 2 weeks.
- And I requested another infopass now on Feb. 4th. and another service request online.

Meanwhile my last day to work was 24th now all I can do is wait so I can go back to work.
Few helpful tips:

I worked close with my HR regarding this issue, they told me when was my last day, do not try to work if your permit expires or your extension as it will affect you if USCIS checks your social security and see that you worked without permit. Also you will need to be terminated from work you won't be able to take leave or vacation as that means you are still employed by your employer.
Apply on time (at least 6 months) before your card expires!!!
