Background Check?
Hi everyone,

I heard someone in this forum say that background check is a reason to hold people up after interview, but I never heard anything official from USCIS about this. Does anyone know more about this topic, for example whether it exists at all, how long it takes, what factors may complicate or prolong it?

My guess (pure guess) is that background check does indeed exist, as with many other things in the US that when you apply for they will do a background check on you (eg: work for government, become a teacher...). However, background check for the immigration process will probably just consist of running your information against some database, which should take at most a few weeks. And the fact that some people still get their green card relatively quickly means that USCIS does not run some lengthy background check. So to say that someone's case is held up after interview more than 2 months because their background check has not been completed sounds a lot of BS to me.

Anyone can offer some insight about this please? Thanks.
