N400 with Interview Reschedule
Hi I finally got my citizenship today. I took oath with 450 other new citizens, my field office was DC. It took exactly one year from date of application. About 3-4 months can be attributed to having interview rescheduled and confusion around it.
I applied in June 16 and got interview for early January 04 -2017 . Since I had scheduled overseas travel and it was costly to reschedule during holiday period, I sent reschedule request and had delivery conformation of the request. I did not hear back anything till mid Feb. Meanwhile I called customer service 3 times and all times they told me you should be fine as long as you know that your request is delivered to USCIS office.
Finally Mid February (2.5 months after initial interview notice) I took INFO pass and came to know that there is no reschedule request in their system. So my application is in no man's land. I immediately submitted new request and within week got INTERVIEW DE-SCHEDULE notice. So far customer service had not mentioned about de-schedule notice at all.
Finally my application started moving again and I got citizenship.
My advice to anyone if they need to reschedule interview, make sure you get de-schedule notice. Seems like customer service doesn't know about it. Also, once you are cleared for interview it seems that case is pretty much in your local office's hand so you can visit / call there and try to find out.
