Visitor Visa - B2

Had applied for US Visa for self & my wife and took appointment for scanning to OFC. Faced with problem in name since being a Tamilian, only given name was applicable in passport and no surname. Corrected at Collection centre by paying a small amount and modified the name in application with given name as surname and first name as FNU.

Took all supporting documents at the time of Visa Interview at Mumbai 2 weeks later including no-objection form from employer, invitation letters from my brother (he is a US citizen) and my daughter (she is a student), bank statement, property registration documents, self prepared financial statement, old passport with 20 years old Visa, etc. Drove to the consulate in my car but since remote keys were not allowed inside, I deposited it with a person outside with some apprehension who gave a receipt for his charge. Advised not to drive with such car keys if there is nobody accompanying.

At the time of Interview, Visa officer asked general questions about purpose of visit and about my job. Also asked what my daughter was doing. Further asked my wife whether she had travelled abroad which she little bit fumbled but I clarfied. The officer smiled and told that it will take about 5 days time. Visa issued to my wife same afternoon. After agonising wait, on 5th day the site showed that my passport is under administrative processing. On 6th day I also received the passport with Visa stamped. Overall good experience with some hiccups at every stage!
