B1/B2 VISA Experience
Hello,

I recently appeared for visa interview at embassy, New Delhi along with my wife and 9.5 months old son. I am 29 years old govt employee working for more than 05 years with the organisation. I was carrying all the required documents (even those not required), have strong ties to my country, fair bank balance, and provided all the correct information during interview and also while filling DS-160 form. I am having close relative in US and filled the same in form also. Interview was scheduled at 1045 and they allowed us to enter exactly at 1045 only and we were out by 1220. Here is how my interview went:

VO(a lady): Good Afternoon
We: Good Afternoon
(handed over 03 passports)

VO: Why do you want to travel to US?
Me: For tourism and sightseeing

VO: Where will you travel?
Me: ZZZ

VO: Do you have any one in US?
Me: Yes My YYYY and YYY

VO: What is their status and what do they do?
Me: Told

VO: Who is going to sponsor your trip?
Me: Self Sponsor

VO: What do you do?
Me: I am YYYY in YYY
(then there were 3-4 questions about my profession)

VO: Are you working somewhere? (to my wife)
Wife: No

VO: OK, I am approving your VISA. You will get your passports in 4-5 working days.

Surprisingly, she didn’t ask for a single document from me. I was carrying two big files with chunks of documents. Infact, she didn’t even ask for NOC (No objection certificate) which is a must for any govt employee. No bank documents, no invitation letter nothing at all. Probably, it was our confidence and preparation which helped us through this. There are few points from side:

1. Fill your DS-160 with absolute attention. This website helped me a lot in understanding the experiences of other people. Unfortunately, I was not knowing about this website so couldn’t take this advantage. Whatever you write in the form should be correct and truth, hence you don’t need to remember anything. And once you have filled the form, just stick to it. Whatever you speak during the interview and filled in DS-160 should match (irrespective of truth).

2. Start preparation well in advance. I started preparing for my interview 01 month back. Your preparation should be specific to you, your job, your relatives in US(if incase one is there). I prepared everything about my relatives too ( like DOB, DOM, kids DOB e.t.c). You never know what they are going to ask in interview.

3. Prepare a list of probable questions. I prepared a list of probable questions and answers specific to me. Again this website helped a lot in the same. Prepare your answers in max 01 or 02 lines. We practiced and practiced and practiced. To our surprise all the questions asked to us were all prepared by us well in advance and hence more confident.

4. Prepare your documents well. Arrange your documents in the priority you think might be asked from you. Put flags in the corner, so that you can easily open the concerned page.

Guys it is all your preparation and confidence that will matter a lot. We got our visa even without showing a single document. I know it’s a bit of luck too but there is no harm in well preparation as it will give you confidence.

All the Best!
