Driving through San Ysidro POE
Just wanted to share with you all-

My husband and I went to his hometown in Mexico using his EAD/AP card. We drove through San Ysidro POE. I presented my US passport and his Mexican passport w/ EAD/AP card and his sister’s green card. CBP took all of them took it to his booth and asked where I was headed (I was driving). I told him “Home” and he asked where “Home” was. Then he asked my husband where he lives. My husband said he lives with me. He asked if I was bringing anything in and I said no. I asked him where the nearest bathroom was because I made the mistake of buying corn from a street vendor. He laughed and said just to take the next exit and that we were good to go. He didn’t send us to secondary inspection. I was going to asked if we needed to go to secondary Inspection but I really had to go use the bathroom and since my husband already had a legal entry I wasn’t too worried about getting his parole stamp.

So happy to have gone on this trip and got back in safely. I was researching for any experiences related to Traveling with AP specifically through the border. I was very nervous because I wouldn’t know what to do if my husband was denied entry. Just a little bit of background- he has a ten year border crossing card and so all of his entries have been legal. He overstayed that visa since 2009, but applied for DACA in 2014 and had it when we applied for AOS. There was a two and a half month lapse between his DACA expiration and when he received his c9 EAD card. We took the chance to travel to see family anyways since his unlawful presence was when he was a minor and I read that it does not count towards the 3/10 year ban.

Hope this helps you guys make your decision whether or not you want to use your AP to travel.
