Since this forum was so helpful...wanted to share my experience
AOS - married to USC
Filed either 05/02 or 05/04
Went in for biometrics on 06/04
Lost employment on end of july. Needed EAD card to get a job and start. Based on how the timelines were looking didn't seem like it was going to happen anytime soon (went from 6.5 to 8.5 months processing time for C9 EAD to 3.5 to 5.5 months). Raised an expedite request by contacting USCIS first week of August and also contacted my local congress representative.
Gave job offer that I got, proof of financial hardship (bills, mortgage, etc.), and cover letter.
Congress representative was able to get ahold of USCIS and expedite the case.
09/06 Case was approved.
Now playing the waiting game for the card to be mailed out.
Travel document has not been approved yet.
Incidentally my I485 interview is scheduled.
To those in limbo, if you are in a desperate need, make sure you have a job offer/job and proof of financial burden. Raise the expedites by contacting USCIS directly but more importantly finding out who your local representative is and contacting their office. If they are competent at all they should help you. Don't wait for things to happen.
