EAD extension
Hello everyone,

I recently had to stop working because my EAD expired and I sent in the extension application closer to the expiry date of my EAD. My company said they will hire me back and if I got the receipt number so I tried ombudsman and USCIS to speed up the process of getting the receipt number. Unfortunately, that's something out of their control and suggested me to wait for its natural course.

Usually, HRs send reminders to their employees if their employment status is expiring or changing. And I didn't initiate the process because I had a GC interview coming up and wasn't really liking my workplace. Sadly, because of COVID 19, the interview was cancelled and that made me decide to stick to this workplace. Better to have a job than none yeah?

I finally got the receipt notice after 28 days and sent a copy to the HR. The HR said they needed approval now and that they wouldn't hire me with the receipt notice (because "we don't want to take a chance" I don't know what they mean by that), even though it was clearly mentioned about the automatic 180-day extension (starting from the expiry date of my EAD). They also said they would have helped me with expediting the card only if I was still employed with them.

Fast forward to now, The status is changed to "card is being produced". I'm not sure how long it would take for my card to arrive but hopefully this will work for my HR to continue with the hiring process.

This is my process.
Married to citizen (AOS pending)

Applied the whole package on Nov 2018

Expedite EAD card arrives on March 21st 2019 (ombudsman + congresswoman+ USCIS)

Applied for EAD extension on March 15th 2020, (I-765 and I 131 forms)

EAD card expires March 18th, 2020.

GC interview cancelled on March 25th, 2020.

Received notices for both applications on April 11th and April 14th 2020.

EAD card is being produced on May 6th, 2020.

From my previous experience, it took 3-4 days from 'card is being produced' to receiving the card in mail. Since its COVID I don't know if that is affected.

Good luck everyone, thanks.
