EAD processing time / timeframe (Approved in 113 days)
EAD through U.S. spouse (I-485, I-130)
Submitted documents to Chicago Center, but receipt numbers had MSC. Don’t know if that means it is Missouri taking care of my case.

Here I summarize what I would recommend to people applying for an EAD. It is a long and stressful process and experiences seems to be different from case to case, but maybe this will help some of you that are in a similar situation.

- Submit I-765 together with 485 and 130 even if you don’t have a job offer or are not planning to work. Better to get the process started so that the days start counting.

- Create an account online and sign up for Case Updates so that you get emails and/or Text messages when you case is updated. No need to login to check the status.

- If you get a job offer, try to ask you congressman to expedite the process, no matter what day you are in. In my case I expedited it myself through Customer Support on day 30 and they agreed to expedite it. However, nothing happen to my case! It remained unanswered. The response I got for the expedite request came in an email, not an official letter, so there was no official record of this approval and did not become part of the case history. When I asked support what it meant to have it expedited, they told me it would take “less” than 90 days, which at the end didn’t.

- Create Service Requests on day 75 and 90. I did the first one over the phone and the second one myself online. The response was the same and it came a day or two after. Counting the days if you have RFEs is unclear how it works, I found references that said that the count stop/resume and another one saying that it starts over [1] [2]. My 765 case did not have a direct RFE (my 485 did have) and Customer Support said that the days could be counted from the beginning without interruption.

- Over day 90? Definitely get your local congressman involved. They are willing to help. Make sure you keep in touch with the congressman representative to hear the answer. I’m sure they have a lot of cases and they can’t keep track of all emails they get. Also, you have the possibility to create an infopass appointment, most people say that it is useless but, at least, it is something you can do.

- Finally, if possible assume that the case will take 120 days and take action after day 75. Otherwise, you will spend the first 90 days being stressed out over not knowing what’s happening with your case and hoping it will be approved any day.
