Visitor Visa - B2

My mother got her visa at Chennai consulate. Many thanks to the immihelp website and forum. I was apprehensive since she is a widow but thorough preparation helped.

I thought I should share this experience for the benefit of others.

Following was the sequence of events:
Her Appointment letter was checked at gate.
At the reception, they took her passport and DS-156 and gave her a token number
She went to the waiting room. There were three officers seated at desks similar to the cashiers counters at banks in India. The applicant has to stand in front of the counter and answer questions via a speaker phone (unlike Mumbai where you pick up a phone and talk).

My mom said the officer's accent was understandable but there was some static. The officer asked for my documents. He examined them carefully.
His questions were mainly regarding why my mom had not come to the U.S. before to visit me and why she wanted to stay for 3 months and about her house and family in Chennai.
She answered those questions and offered to show relevant documents but he said that's okay.
Overall the interview took about 15 minutes.

My general suggestion to others is to train the applicant based on their individual sitation and modify the documents suggested in this website.
