We reached the office parking lot at 8:30 am. Due to COVID-19 protocols, you are only allowed inside the building 15 minutes before the interview time. We went through security at 8:50 am and sat down after getting a ticket number by 9:00 am. Our interviewer came out and called us few minutes after our appointment time. We were directed to her office. The chairs were moved back from the desk and there was a plexiglass on her desk separating us. Our interviewer was neither friendly nor strict, just professional. She asked for our passports, green card, EAD card and drivers licenses. She took my biometrics, picture and then our oath.
She started with I-130 questions to my wife.:
1. Name and date of birth.
2. Current employer. Our law firm mistakenly put my wife’s previous job first. Officer asked my wife about her end date of previous job and she got it wrong by a day or two. Updated current employment.
3. My name and my previous job’s start and end date. My wife got my start date/month of previous employment wrong which she corrected a minute later.
Questions to me:
1. Name and date of birth.
2. Went through the Yes/No questions on I-485.
3. My wife’s parents’ names.
Questions to my wife:
1. My parents’ names.
2. How she got her permanent residency?
3. How we met? Who proposed? How the relationship progressed? Did you meet each other’s parents? Where did you have your wedding? What date? Who attended? Was it a big wedding or small wedding?
Officer took our signatures confirming the completion of the interview. She asked us if we would like to add any new documentation to support our case. We took a sheet that highlighted new documents but she didn’t bother to read it. She just asked us to submit everything we wanted to give and same with the photos. Before we left, I asked her if they would consider that our second anniversary is 10 days away if they were to approve our case and she said it depends on what date they approve. She asked us what we were planning for the anniversary. We said due to pandemic we might just get food to go. She said we can plan something for later when all of this(pandemic) passes away. Finally she said we will know a decision by mail within 120 days. No white paper handed to us. Interview ended and we were out by 10:20 am.
