Green card interview/timeline
Hello everyone here is my experience and timeline. I came to the US in 2007 at age 13 with a visitor visa and applied for DACA in 2011. I married my wife in 2016 she is US born citizen. We could've sent I-130 and I-485 concurrently but were advised to send them separate which we did. We did not use a lawyer. Here is a timeline:
February 2017- sent I-130 petition
August 2017- sent I-485; no work permit requested since i had DACA.
September 2017- Did Biometrics.
November 2017- I-130 approved but with Consular processing status; went to USCIS to speak because i thought it was a mistake on their part. IO was rude and not helpful. Spoke to lawyer regarding letter, he said not to worry and to just wait.
February 2018- USCIS requested support evidence for sponsor; sent support evidence 4 days later.
May 2018- Case status changed to "ready to be scheduled for interview"
August 2018- Sent work permit application for C9 category since its free and DACA EAD would expire in 4 months. No biometrics needed.
November 2018- EAD card arrived
January 2018- Cases status changed to "Interview was scheduled', interview notice came a week after and scheduled for February.
Here is my interview experience.
Arrived at USCIS building 30 minutes early and went through security. Headed upstairs and seated, there were other people there. Everyone was looking at each other and some were going over their documents and others brought their lawyers. We were called on time and the IO woman took us to her room. We sat down and she told me to stand up, she took a picture and took my index finger prints. She than told us to stand up and do the oath. She requested my passport and i gave it to her it was expired and i also gave her my expired VISA and I-94 departure record. She kept those and said i wouldn't be needing them anymore, she requested I-693 and i gave it to her sealed. She then proceeded to ask me questions while she looked at my application she checked marked as she went a long. She asked me for my full name, when i came to the USA, where i came through, where i was born. She asked if i belonged to any groups or clubs, i told her i did Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, she looked confused so i said its ground fighting and she wrote it down; don't think she understood what it was to be honest. She then asked if i planned to overthrow the U.S government and i was ever convicted etc., those kind of question and i said no to all of them. She asked when i got married. She then asked for the supporting documents which i gave her, she took 5 pictures from the photo album we brought, she did not ask my wife any questions. She then said she was done and i gathered my documents. She said they would do a more thorough background check and that if they needed more documents that they would mail a request and it would take about a month. She escorted us out and we shook her hand; i could tell she didn't want a hand shake. She was not rude but she wasn't nice either, there was no expression or emotion from her. Other IOs were polite and smiling, i low key wanted her be like them. The entire interview took 15 minutes. Other posts say they were approved on the spot and other say their status changed within hours of interview however mine remains the same so I'm starting to worry a bit even though i know i shouldn't. Here is a list of the supporting evidence i brought a long. Certified marriage license, joint bank account, apartment leases, car insurance, Tax return where wife is dependent, Medical Insurance and photo album. Has anyone had a similar experience?
