Mine was on 16th Oct ...posting bit late...
Journey Prep Pune to Mumbai, as I was not aware of Mumbai, so for ppl who are on same boat as mine, hope following helps.
Hotel: Best way for people who are not familiar with Mumbai, Call JustDial for both Hotel and Transportation. U`ll start getting the calls, just make sure, u get a hotel, bit near to Bandra West, which is close to Consulate.
Day 1: Fingerprint and Photograph:
My Appointment was at 3 pm, on safer side reached by 2:15 pm. It was very hot sunny day, saw a small line, and there was one VO representative, checking the documents like Passport, DS-160, Appointment letter etc. .
Few, things I observed, I still saw few people, with huge bags, mobiles, etc. and of course they were then told that all those are not allowed, and then they started running here and there.
Note: I was surprised, to see locals like auto rickshaw waalas asking, ppl, if they want to keep there mobiles, bags and also, if they want to get anything photocopy etc. However, this indeed is helpful.
Got inside the facility, there was a counter on the left hand side and security check, when U enter. Then, u r directed to the counter, where they took, passport & appt letter. To my surprise, they told me that, there was something wrong, with Appt Letter & they have corrected the same, I need to take new printout for the Interview next day, however, they allowed us, inside, given 2 separate coupon. Waited for 5 mins, got to the counter, where got fingerprinted & Photo taken (Note: The photo taken, will come on the stamped VISA ) (Went back to hotel & took new Appontment letter.
Day 2: Interview:
I had 9 am time, though, reached by 7:45 am, they allowed us in, there was a small line. Went in , there is Airport type security check. I had taken with me documents, Wedding Album. In security check, they refused, that I cannot take Wedding Album as it was in a box I requested once, but in vain, then I went outside & asked the guard, whr I can keep that, he directed me to an Innova, whr other ppl were also, keeping the things, which were not allowed, he told me, it will be Rs. 150, but at that time, it was fine.
Went again, and they let us in. then we went to another area, where there was a big line, however, the area was also big, and there were chairs for the lines, so it was good. There were 5 6 VO reps, checking the documents and arranging them. We moved, very slowly, there were lot of families too. So, just sat there, observing public, there were 2 doors, which I saw, one for entry and another exit, I was focused on the exit, where ppl were getting out, I was seeing, happy and sad faces coming out, but I told myself, that every case is different.
So, after a long wait, we entered in,it was very crowded day, so we got in by 9:45 am. Were given the Token, then, proceeded, to the another area, where at the last 2 counters, verified the fingerprints, then sat down and waited for the number, there were few counters, where I was able to hear the interviews. Some of them, were B1, where I saw few rejections & approvals. Then , finally our turn, at my counter, there was a Young American with smiling face, so, that was a good sign.
We: Good Morning, how r u today?
VO: Doing fine, thanks. (Passed the passports only.)
VO: Can I see ur I 797?
Me: Sure(Passed the doc).
After typing something on computer.
VO: Who is ur Client?
Me: Replied
VO: What do they do?
Me: Replied briefly.
VO: Where are you going?
Me: Replied
VO: What is ur Salary ?
Me: Replied
Then to my wife:
VO: How long have you been married?
VO: Have you been out of India? (As there were stamps on her passport. She replied mentioning the places)
VO: So, you guys went for holiday or honeymoon
WE: both replied Holiday.
Then, there was a pause, as VO was typing something on computer, well some anxious moment, i`ll tell u :P .
Then, much awaited words: Visa Approved, you`ll get your passports.
