H1B, H4 Visa

Special detailed message for those who ar tense like me. I was damn damn tense, cant even tell u !!! below was my exp.

High level details.

Step 1 - on the main Road, VFS guy will check your HDFC receipt & place a token number on your Passport. Then you will be frisked by another person which will allow you to enter into the consulate.

Step 2 - Another VFS security guard will check your documents & let you enter into the consulate.

Step 3 - You will wait in a lobby for your finger prints. (Your number will display in LCD screen which will guide you to the window where you need to show your documents once again n get your finger prints done. Again this part will be taken care by VFS guys.

Once all these steps are done, you are guided to go into different building where actual interviews are happening.

Interview room exp.

a. This is again big hall where you need to wait for your turn & token number displayed in LCD screen. VFS guys are again present here to help you remind if your number has come.

b. Once your number is there, they will guide you to go to the window where you are suppose to face Visa officer.

BIG Moments starts here

I was stand in queue when my name came. Old couple was ahead of me & VO was very friendly. (I just guessed from the conversation he was having with old couple.)

here is my conversation.

Me - Hello, Good morning officer & passed my documents to him.
VO - No reply, (slightly smiled.)

VO - What company do you work for
Me - xxxxx

VO - Who is your client
Me - xxxxxxxxxx

VO - say again ? he couldn’t understand the name in first go.
Me - So i repeated again slowly.

VO - Which location you are going ?
Me - Stamford.

VO - Stamford or Stanford ?
Me - Its Stamford. (Spelled it word by word S T A M F O R D) n then told him state so that he can be very clear.

VO – What’s your highest Qualification.
Me - Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science.

VO - Whats your Salary
Me - Told me LCA salary. He verified the same in my Petition.

Then he said Your Visa is approved & your passport will reach with in a week & i got my passport in 2 working days.

Couple of Key things - I know how nervous one can be, but really correct info is the key for it n bit if confidence is also required. I am damn sure you will feel very very relaxed once you reach there because you will get at least 30-35 mins to face interview from the time you enter after security check :-)

Couple of things you need to be very very careful.

a. Misleading information, contradictory information or anything for which you dont have proofs will lead to definitely rejection or 221g form (on Hold)

b. Do not fumble while english. I have seen ppl speaking pathetic interview are through because they were just speaking english with confidence no matter if they were correct or not.

c. Your Salary should be matching with what you have filled in DS-160. more importantly you should say same salary which is written in your 3rd page of the LCA.

d. They are very busy n dont spend more than 1-2 mins on any body unless they feel something is wrong. Keep your answers short n up to the mark.

My interview was cake walk may be because i was prepared for Worst !!!!!!!

Also for those who think they may face problems while understanding their accent. DONOT worry at all. they speak English very very slowly to make sure you understand in one go!.

a. Why are you going to US.
b. What will you do there.
c. Whats your highest qualification
d. Whats your location ?
e. Who is your company & client

Few more detailed questions.

Q. Why only you are going ?
A. I have been given a project assignment at my client location to suppose upcoming releases.

Q. Why cant you work at offshore?
A. Say because dev team is at onshore.or any appropriate reason for your travel.


Overall - All questions/Answers will be over within a min or two.

I know every can do that unless n untill they have something fake with them. I can understand the pain because I was also very nervous.
