H1 Visa
Congratulations to all those who have got their visas. I just like to point out a few points here which may help everyone going to US.

I got my H1 visa stamped last year in december. I heard the news that US economy is suffering from a severe recession. I still decided to leave for US in the hope of getting a job. I thought i may get lucky.

The reality was different to what i thought. Indeed the US job market was very down. People already working in US are still safe but the newcomers have to face a hard time finding work. On the other hand, desi consultants have a 'no-care' attitude towards its employees.

If you have a strong experience of more than 5 years (no fakes) in your domain, then you should be able to find work with less difficulty even if your desi consultants dont help you.

On the other hand, if your experience level is less, then definitely the good desi consultants wont be able to help you too. They will put you on bench in a shitty guesthouse to share with 8-9 other guys who will in same situation as you.

The other thing is, you would definitely need to sort out your driving license as without a car (unless in manhattan), one would be completely handicap. US is widely spread unlike england and europe which has an excellent public transportation. There will be no buses running in most of the areas in a state (exceptions are big cities). Only train stations which again can be miles away from where you are. The company might put you in a guesthouse miles away from the restaurants and supermarkets. In that case, you need to drive all the way to buy what you need (if you want to) or hire a private cab (very expensive).

If you buy the phone cards there, remember that they even charge for any incoming calls unless you decide to go for contract (better option), but for that you need to set up a bank account and have regular income in that. Doing small part time work on H1 visa can be risky but lot of people do that (again transportation may be a problem here with respect to going to your work place and coming back).

With the current situation in US, the chances of the job market getting better seems low. Other alternatives to US are options like UK and australia where they have points system which helps to get a PR to settle down.

At the end i just like to conclude by saying that make your own mind and review the market situations, take references from your desi consultants and make sure you have a strong experience in your field.

Wishing everyone a happy future.
