H1B & H4 Visa
I got the H1B visa for myself and H4 visa for my wife. Our interview was scheduled on Aug 24, 2005 at American Embassy, New Delhi. We have one month old baby also whose passport is not ready yet. We reached an hour before interview time. There is no parking place outside embassy due to security reasons. Those going to embassy by their own vehicles can park it at malda market parking. It is around 200m away from embassy. Normally security at gate allow to stand in queue around 30 minutes before interview time. There are different queses for different types of visas. Queue for nonimigrant visa was longest. There were around 30-40 ppl in this line. After security check and confirmation of appointment we were sent to lane no 1. Security allows infants evenif they dont have an appointment. It is special lane for people above the age of 65 and ppl with children below 14 years of age. After standing for around 10 minutes security offered my wife a seat inside as she was carrying one month old baby. My turn came after 30 minutes. The officer asked for DS-156, 157, passports, DDs of Rs 4400 & 2200 and original I-797. He enetred the data into computer and asked me to wait for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes he returned my documents along with a receipt of Rs 8800( for me and my wife) and asked me to go inside. There was another security check. After that i was into visa hall where my wife was waiting for me. There is a small pantry in hall also. Majority of office staff here is indian. First of all there was fingerprint scanning of me and my wife. Then there is TTS counter. Here they collect DDs of Rs 441 for each passport and give you receipt for the same. After that there was a queue for visa interview. There were around 20 people in the queue. There were around 4 counters for non immigrant visas. They were calling people one by one. They were spending around 5 to 30 minutes depending on case to case. My turn came after one and half hour. The officer was a young guy of around 25 years of age. The conversation with the officer follows:
Me: Good after noon officer.
Officer: Good after noon. How r you?
Me: I am fine. Thank you.
He carefully checked my documents for around 1 minute and checked the status in his computer also and asked me the following questions.
1.How did you get the job?
2.How many people are there in company?
3.Where will you stay in USA?
4.Why do you want to work as an Oracle DBA(my profile is oracle dba)?
5.Where were you working before you current job?
I gave the appropriate answers.
Then he asked my wife the following questions:
Office: How old is your baby?
My wife: He is less than a month old.
Then i told the officer that his passport is not ready and we will apply for his visa as soon as his passport is ready.
Officer:What do u do?
My wife:I am a housewife.
Office: Are you happy taking care of your children?
My wife: yes.
Then the officer looked at me and told that your visa is approved and prepare yourself to get your baby there. All the best. He gave me two stickers one part of each he pasted on our passports. I thanked the office and came to TTS counter and gave the stickers to them. They pasted these on an envelope and told me to write my adress on the same. We got our passports with visa stamped on Aug 26. My visa interview lasted less than 5 minutes. It was a wonderful experience. Staff was very coperative and every one was serving with a smile on the face. So, nothing to bother. Give interviews with confidence and smile on face. You will definitely get it.
