i had been to chennai in the month of sept 2007
i had taken my wife and kid (5 years )with me
for us there was no line , they escorted directly to finger print and there was no waiting time for us ,since we had a kid with us
it was 10 to 12 minutes interaction

me : made my son to say hai vo and he said hai
vo : thanks
vo: after typing for about 3 minutes he said you will get your visa and passport in 3 days via courier
me : said thanks

one important thing is to have eye contact and listen carefully the questions vo ask for
