Firstly, I want to thank this website for helping me.. and maybe thousands of other H1B visa aspirants in preparing for the visa interview process.
Today, I attended the interview at the New Delhi embassy. From the scheduled time of appointment till the I actually reached the counter, it took 5 hours !! Yes, there is a heavy rush of people applying for various visas. I was told that today, the Delhi embassy had approx. 900 (nine hundred) applicants. And from the time you enter into the queue outside the embassy... till the time you reach the final interview counter, its a slow...slow.. process. I could find the very young and the very old getting extremely restless through the wait.
Anyway.. after all the arduous wait..I came upto to the interview counters. There were 3 counters that were simultaneously functioning. There was a man in one of them, an old lady (in her late 50's I guess) in the second, and a middle-aged (young!) lady in the third.
While I was waiting in the line, I could see that each of them were approving certain applications and rejecting a few too. The old lady seemed rather strict!! Though I had all papers in place, I was getting a little concerned of the prospect of facing her for my interview. Well, utlimately to allay my concerns :-), when my turn came, I was called by the "young" lady. And this is how the interview went:
Me: Good Afternoon Mam!
VO: Good Afternoon!Can I see you visa application papers please
Me: (Handed over the relevant papers to her)
VO: What would you be in the company?
Me: I handle YYYY functions
VO: How big is the company that you would be joining in the US?
Me: The company has __ people with US$____ turnover.
VO: Can I see your educational credentials please?
Me: Sure (handed over to her my highest educational qualification certificate)
She checked something on her computer for a few seconds and started writing something on the application.
Finally she gave the pink colored Visa application Fee slips back saying "Your application has been accepted. And you will receive your passports through courier".
Me: Mam, I understand that we can collect the passports from the counters in the evening by paying Rs.56/- ?
VO: You need to check that with vfs.
Me: Thank You Mam!
Well, all this took hardly 5-7 minutes. But, one important thing is that you need to be thoroughly prepared with all your documents... it should be 100% ready. Don't leave any lacunae. Carry all documents... and believe in God.
