H1B+H4 renewal experience
Hi,

I am a regular visitor for this website and the resources here have been helpful for me and my family. I am posting my experience for H1B and H4 renewal.

My Case: I did my graduate studies in US and then obtained a job at a reputable company based in the US. I got my H1B stamping in 2008 and renewing it in Jan 2013. My visa expired for more than 12 months, and hence could not use drop box.

My wife and I went to the consulate on 1/7/13. After the document verification and finger print verification was over we were sent to the window for Interview, here is how it went:

Me: Hi, how are you doing ?

VO: I am doing good, how are you?

Me: I am doing great! Thank you.

VO: You are applying for H1B renewal, where do you work?

Me: Answered .

VO: What do you do at ZZZ?
Me: Answered in few sentences.

VO: Checked computer for a minute and asked how long have you been working for ZZZ?
Me: Answered.

VO: What is your highest qualification?
Me: Answered.

VO: What is your salary?
Me: Answered.

Then VO turned to my wife and asked : Where do you live in US?
W:Answered.

VO: Hmm, how is the weather there?
W: Answered.

VO: When will you be traveling to US.
W: Answered.

VO: I am approving your visa. You will get yous passports in 3 days.
Me, W: Thank you very much!

That's about it. It was pretty simple. Like many said in their experiences - smiling while greeting the VO and confidently answering the questions is the key for the interview. Hopefully, this would be useful.

Thanks!
RK
