I have attended H4 Visa interview as recently as 11th Dec 2009 @ Hyderabad.
Docs asked 1.Passport 2.HDFC Reciept 3.DS forms 4.I797A 5.Spouse Passport with Valid Visa.
Interview...
VO: Are you working ?
A: No I'm not
VO: So you are joining your wife in the US ?
A: Yes
VO: When did you get married ?
A: on xx.xx.xxxx
VO: Can you hand over your spouses pay slips ?
A: here you go.
VO: Your Visa is issued and you'd recieve your passport in 7 days.
A: Thank You very much.
done deal.
p.s. I carried Wedding Album, Marriage certificate, Tax returns, W2 forms, I-129, I-94, education certificates, bank statements, property tax, wedding invitation....all these proved to be excess baggage.
