House Visit
Hi Fam,

Two officers had visited our house today at 9:00AM. My husband and I were both at work so it was only my landlord and the other renter on our house. My husband and I are staying on the backhouse. Compared to what I am reading on house visits, mine felt different as I felt like I was being interviewed all over again.

The officer called my cellphone and asked if they can come inside. I told the officer that I will call the landlord to give my permission. When the landlord welcomed them, I was put by the officer on loudspeaker and asked me the following:

- can you describe to me the house? (I described starting at the door, our bed, and whatever they can see on our room).
- what color are the slippers on the door?
- when is your birthday?
- where are your husband shoes?
- how much is the rent?
- how do you pay the rent?
- where is your husband?
- what does he do?
- when was the last time you saw him?
- how did you meet?
- what did you do for your birthday?
- what did you do over the weekend?
- what is your mother in law’s address?
- who does she live with?
- does your husband have kids?
- have you met them?
- do you plan to have kids? Are you using contraceptives?
- where do you work?
- what work do you do?
- do you have insurance? How about your husband?
- what is your husband’s number? To my nervousness, I accidentally gave the work cellphone and not his personal phone. I only realize it after....

I tried to remember all the things that they have asked me. I felt like we were conversing or I was on my same interview 1.5 years ago.

My husband was working in construction field and they tried to call him after me in the morning. Unfortunately, my husband was not able to take the call as he was on the field. My husband tried to return the call later in the afternoon but it was only a voicemail so he left a voicemail to the number that was used by the officer.

The officer also asked my landlord on when was the last time he saw my husband and he said 2 weeks ago as we do not see each other in the house that often. The officer also asked a copy of our rental agreement, and unfortunately, my landlord gave the old one when I was still single so the name of my husband is not on the lease. My landlord gave the document without my signature too (regular document) as he could not find the document with my signature. I hope that this will not be a problem for me.

They also asked our other roommate if he knows me and he said that he sees me on a weekend and that I’ve been in the house longer than him.

The officer told my landlord that “they will be back”, while to me, they said that “they’ll call me if they have further questions”.

I feel exhausted and relieved (a little) at the same time. I hope my journey comes to a positive end. I do not know how long will I wait again after this but I hope its not a denial or an NOID.

I am also renewing my EAD this week!

Wish us luck Fam. My husband and I are getting frustrated already but we are trying to keep the faith. God bless us.
