i 485 approved
Hi All

Finally, today on the USCIS website my i 485 status changed to approved. I am so relieved and happy !!!

I feel responsible to this forum, and owe it by describing my experience on it as it will help someone like me.

I had a marriage based AOS and our interview was pretty intense even though the IO was very nice and supportive. Besides asking the general questions about each other they definitely want to be assured from every angle. After being super friendly at first, the IO separated us but if your marriage is genuine I am sure you don't have to worry.

I was approved on the spot but my i 485 took close to 50 days to change the status " your case has been approved" . I believe this is for the fact that they don't do same day approvals if your PD is recent and not in the processing time of the field office. My PD was 10 Sept 2016. I received no RFEs ( not even for the new medical which requires Gonorrhea testing with results).

I would just like to highlight key things which one should keep in mind when doing his process, as one mistake/ignorance can impact your life and relationship.

1) Be very sure when completing the forms and fill it correctly. If you are not confident, then hire a decent lawyer who can help you in filling the forms. If your case is complicated, then do hire an attorney who can advise properly. ( But one should also read websites like these to have knowledge on the process). I had hired an attorney who could help me in filling the form. He guided me on things like bringing joint sponsor etc. I had to spent hardly thousand bucks for him to assist me with filling all forms..

2) Have every evidence that can prove your marriage is genuine. It can be anything. ( the best are lease agreements, medical insurance, joint bank accounts, DL etc). Pics do help.

3) If your relationship is genuine and you know your partner well, you don't need to fear the interview even if you are separated. My interview lasted for 2.5 hours !!!!

4) last but the least, believe in GOD. There is someone in the sky who is there to help all of us and will help you in overcoming all the situation.

I am still yet to receive any message of " Card being produced" etc. But I hope with i 485 approval, it should follow.

If there are any questions, and if I have an answer for it, I will be happy to answer.

Cheers to this forum and for the ones who are undergoing the process - Best of Luck to you guys !
