Interview
Very bad and discrimitive experience.
My wife had her interview at the end of February here in El Paso, Tx. She had studied all of the civics questions and knows them like nobody else and knows basic English. So arriving there at the office she was quiet nervous. While waiting to be called several people were called before here by some very nice interviewers and some didn't look that happy. My wife and hoping to get an older person that seemed to be very nice and every person coming out after the interview with him were very happy becuase they passed the test. Also from the comments from the people the interviewer seemed to be very helping and caring. But then the door goes open and my wifes name is called in an almost unrecognizable tone by a female interviewer with an expression on her face like. I wanted to go with my wife but she didn't want me to. So my wife followed her into her office where she had to take the oath at a record speed and was asked for here driverlicence and her green card. The she was again aked in a record time how, when she became a resident and why she wanted to become a citizen? So my wife didn't understand all of those questions very clear and asked her to repead herself which she denied. And so she tried to answer to the best of here knowledge and on the question why she wanted to become a citizen she had answered to have the right to vote. Where the officer said that can not be the reason. So at only being 5 minutes in the office my wife was told that her English should be better and she will get another invitation for the test. This woman had from the very first minute the attention to fail my wife and wouldn't give her one oppertunity.
I hereby just want to state that these interviews should be recorded and the government should have surveys filled out about the service. Because there is a lot of abuse by officials done to immigrants and they know most people will not complain because of the situation they are in. I also tried to find a website or a phone number to post the complaint and after tens of calls I could get a fax number where I could send my complaint. But my wife is scared and asked me not to do this. But I have my letter ready and by the next interview I hope I can be with my wife to make sure everything is done as it should be. If this repeats itself, Napolitano (Secretary of Homeland security) can expect a letter from me (although I do not think she will read it). Because she talks a lot about transparency and facilitating the integration of immigrants while some elements in their system are just doing the opposite. Also why is it so difficult to find a government site for complaints?
