Adjustment of Status - I-485

Had our interview in the Dallas field office late October. Had a pleasant experience and wanted to share what to expect since this website has been very helpful to help calm my interview anxiety. Husband and I wore nicer clothes, nothing fancy - a polo for my husband and a blouse for myself. Be comfortable! Chances are you'll be a little nervous and if you have super high heels or a tight suit, you might not be too happy.

We entered the building 15min prior to interview (husband and I waited in line outside prior to going in). We checked in and waited for our name to be called. The officer was very friendly, but you can tell he takes his job seriously (as he should). First question he asked was to my husband asking him "Do you know why you are here sir?" Obviously my husband knew the answer but it came right out of the gate so it caught him off guard for a second! The officer then asked for additional documents. We had our tax returns, our work benefits with each others names on it, credit cards that have a shared account, pictures of us since I submitted the application and greeting cards from friends and family that were addressed to both of us. He then asked my name, husband's name and birthday. Same questions for husband. Went through I485 questions with me. He asked when and where we got married, who proposed and that was it. We made small talk during the interview when it seemed appropriate and laughed a few times with the officer. He gave us a white paper which says "No additional documents are needed at this time" and we left.

Now we wait and hope the card comes in the mail soon!!! Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions!
