Adjustment of Status - I-485

So I got my EAD monday in the mail. Went to social security office yesterday to apply for a number (I have a job interview next week) was told that my work permit information couldnt be verified as USCIS has not update some immigration data. ??..so the lady pretty much states that she will have to verify again in couple days. She gave me a letter stating same (in Spanish btw ??I dont speak spanish).Now i called the DMV in miami ask what are the requirementes for a drivers license, I explain my status and was told sure you can get it before you are assigned a social security number. So my husband took the day off from work today, went to the DVM (2 different location) , only to be told nooo I cant apply without a ssn. Now can you imagine my frustration! When I told the gentleman at the front that i called and wasnt told that he was like well i telling you you cant. Now I am not a patient lady but I tell you this I am learning patience and tolerance thanks to this process. So now Im here wondering, what if Im offered the job, can i be allowed to work until these government personnels decide to do their jobs? The wait for an interview feels like forever now this!
