Mom got Visa.
Hi all,
First of of all thanks to the great folks at the great IMMI Team!. You are such a wonderful team.

MY mom had her interview scheduled on 03-March(Bush's visit coincided!). It was at Mumbai consulate.

Following questions asked
1.) Who is in US?
2.) What is he doing etc?
3.) Why do you want to go?
4.) Did your son send any letter?
At this moment my mom gave the document set. The CO tore some of the pages from it and my mom got tense and didn't give the property docs and the Indian bank letter!...

The CO said earlier we rejected, cause we thought you were going to stay there!!. There was a breif silence and mom talked convincingly why she would retrun back. (property, savings and family .)

The reason she mentioned for the trip was 'to meet son'. (saying tourism for 3 months was difficult to convince, though in the DS-156, I had mentioned 'tourism and to meet son'.)

After she was able to convince them, they said ,'ok we will give for 5-6 months'. My mom smiled back and said it was fine!.
Thats it.

No, this was not cakewalk.
We had earlier applied in Jan-04 and it got rejected. Mom's visa was rejected a total of 3 times earlier. And finally got the visa fourth time!
Today mom called me and told that it was a 10 year mulitple entry. Now my mom's visa is greater than mine!!!...

Tips,
For folks like me with single mom, dad not able to come to interview, don't loose heart.
1.) Read the various experiences here (I did it for just a year and a half!!.)
2.) Prepare documents as per this site. (great guidance.)
3.) Try to have a sufficient bank balance (US bank).
4.) I-134 is important according to me. (keep at top.)
5.) Keep on calling home and 'prepare' them for the interview.
6.) Keep the answers sweet and short.
7.) I adopted a global and local strategy, searched the net, contacted attorneys here within US (cause it was a case of continuous rejection),and finally asked my mom to consult with a travel consultant in Mumbai. All things helped me a lot.
8.) Do mock interviews., practice, practice and practice....
9.) Pray to God.

And folks most imp. of all, do come here and guide others. I saw a post by 'ANU' (post name) around May 2005 and that case was similar to mine, three rejects earlier and visa at fourth time. That was motivating to read. Thanks 'ANU'.

I think docs are necessary but not sufficient, preparing for the interview and convincing them is most imp. You might have observed that for some the visa was just a cake walk. For others they had to go through the rigours. Better prepare for the worst and expect the best.

All the best.
Thank God, I am able to post it to the site where I have been visiting from such a long time.
Thanks to those who answered my queries when I asked them.

WISHING THE GREAT IMMI TEAM AND ALL THE GREAT READERS ALL THE BEST!.

Thanks,
Sameer
