My experience!
Hi everyone,

Reading other experiences has helped me so much during my EAD process and that’s why I have decided to share mine with you.

My husband is J-1, he is studying a master’s degree and I am J-2 and I am applying for my work permission. I arrived in New York at the end of September and here are my steps listed:

19th October 2016: Sent the EAD form I-765 and other documents through UPS.

27th October 2016: Received an e-mail “Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS Potomac Service Center for processing…”. In this e-mail I had my Receipt Number so I entered it in the USCIS website and it said “Case was received”. The mail also said I should receive this number at home.

I made 2 phone calls during November and December 2016 because I did not have any more notifications and asked if everything was right. They said yes and told me that if on January 9th I don’t received anything else, I should call them again.

9th January 2017: Didn’t receive anything else and the status didn’t move; so I called them again and I raised a service request for “Case outside normal processing time” (75 days). I was told that If after 30 days there are no news… call again.

10th January: My neighbor visit me giving me a letter from USCIS that was in her mailbox. Probably she received it lot of weeks ago (she hardly ever check the mailbox). It was the receipt with the number (I just want you to know that you should receive it too).

11th January: Check my status at “MyUscis” ? “New Card Is Being Produced: we ordered your new card for Receipt Number YYYY ZZZ…” (no e-mail notification).

13th January: Check my status at “MyUscis” ? “Card was Mailed to me: on January 12, 2017 we mailed your new card for Receipt Number YYYY …” ( no e-mail notification).

16th January: I have my card in my hands!

I hope this can help someone. It has been hard…

Good luck!

Best,

Berta
