Came to the USA ( New York) with the Green card lottery ( diversity visa) in 2010, from Africa.
Technically,I became eligible to apply in 2015 ( after 5 years), but I didn't do it because I was owing the IRS (Two thousand dollars), plus procrastination.
I finally applied in October 2018 ( last year) after I paid all my backed up taxes.
- Application on October 2nd 2018.
- Biometrics on October 24th 2018 ( in Brooklyn)
( Note: After the biometrics, website gave me a 20 months estimation, then it sometimes changed (11 months, then 8 months, then went back up to even 22 months)
- Notice of Interview Scheduled received in the email on June 28th 2019, (then after a week on my mail home address ) for July 25th 2019
- July 25th 2019, Interview in Manhattan ( New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan)
- I realized that I forgot the letter, but I had it on my phone on pdf file, and they were ok with it.
- Officer first asked to swear that i'd tell the truth
- Basically went over my application ( was on constantly on the screen of his computer, barely looking at me), asking me the same questions ( do You owe IRS, have you travelled since you applied, have you been involved in terrorism, etc...)
- Asked me if I brought my tax return ( I didn't)
- Asked to see my Passport and Green Card
- Civics questions:
1- Senators are elected for how many years
2- House Representative are elected for how many years
3- How makes Federal Laws
4- Name one branch of the Governement
5-Give the name of one Framers of the Constitution
- English Question
1- Read: California is the most populous state in the US
2- Write: California is the most populous state in the US
3- Write: The State of Washington has a border with Canada
- Asked me if I wanted to change my name, to verify if it was properly written
- Application approved ( Gave me a paper stating that)
- Informed me that I will receive a mail notifying me of the date of the Oath, when I asked him if he could give me an estimation of the date, he told me that now, the computer does it )
